Original Le modèle 680i LT SLI XFX propose également une carte mère moins onéreuse, 220 € environ, à base de 680i LT SLI. Si ce chipset est très séduisant car presque identique aux 680i SLI pour 50€ d'écart, nous n'avons pas apprécié le modèle de XFX qui, une nouvelle fois, se conforme aux préconisations nVidia. Bien décidé à préserver son 680i SLI pour le très haut de gamme, nVidia estime qu'une carte mère 680i LT SLI ne doit pas avoir de PCB noir, trop prestigieux, mais simplement vert. Plus grave, nVidia tente d'imposer un refroidissement actif avec deux ventirads sur les cartes, ce qui nous a décidé à ne pas tester le modèle XFX qui s'y plie. Heureusement que des ténors comme astuce s'affranchissent de ses conseils pour nous proposer des cartes mères mieux pensées et au bon rapport qualité/prix. Le BIOS est assez mitigé. Il n'offre pas tous les réglages que l'on a pris l'habitude d'apprécier chez les plus grands constructeurs de cartes mères, néanmoins il est complet et offre de bonnes possibilités d'overclocking. Rappelons qu'un des points forts du nForce est de permettre la désynchronisation entre le bus mémoire et le bus système, il est par exemple possible d'overclocker son processeur avec un bus de 450 MHz en ayant laissé sa DDR2-800 à sa fréquence nominale.

Firmly committed to keeping their 680i SLI for the very top of the range, nVidia estimates that a 680i LT SLI motherboard should not have a black PCB, too prestigious, but simply green. More seriously, nVidia are trying to impose active cooling with two ventilators on the 680i LT SLI boards, which made us decide not to test the XFX model which follows this trend. Fortunately market leaders such as ASUS free themselves from this "advice" in order to offer us better conceived motherboards at a better price/quality ratio. The BIOS is fairly mundane. It doesn't offer the control we have become used to finding with the best-known motherboard makers, nevertheless it is complete and offers good overclocking possibilities. Don't forget that one of the strong points of the nForce 680 is to allow de-synchronisation between the memory bus and the FSB. For example, it is possible to overclock a CPU with a 450 MHz bus having left the DDR 2-800 at its nominal frequency.
